There are many great foods that can help boost the immune system, but there are just as many excellent herbs and spices. Some of my favorites are turmeric and ginger. However, I realize that knowing how to boost your immune system is still tricky, even when you have a handle on which ingredients to use. I also know it can be equally as difficult to find the time to spend in the kitchen these days. That’s why I am sharing my favorite immune-boosting shot recipe. I love it because it’s full of immune system-boosting ingredients, is easy to make, and is very flavorful.

If you’re just learning how to boost your immune system, this recipe includes many basic staples. I recommend using the organic variety. The superstars in this recipe are:

  • Raw honey - contains bee pollen and propolis, which are very good for you. Bee pollen provides lots of vitamins, and propolis has immune-boosting properties.
  • Turmeric - is an anti-inflammatory. It’s also high in fiber, manganese, vitamin B6, and iron.
  • Ginger root - has antimicrobial effects that can help fight off bacteria and may reduce the risk of respiratory infections.
  • Raw apple cider vinegar - is rich in antiviral properties and can improve growth of healthy bacteria in your gut. (Make sure the bottle says it contains the “mother.”)
  • Fresh lemons - lemons are high in vitamins C, B6, and A

This recipe makes 4 shots, so there is plenty to share with the rest of your household. They pack a very energetic punch, so you may just find one can easily replace your morning coffee.

Ingredients :
1/2 cup warm water
3 tablespoons raw, manuka honey
1/4 inch fresh ginger root, grated
1/2 teaspoon raw apple cider vinegar
1 medium lemon
2 pinches of turmeric
Pitch of black pepper

Directions:
Add warm water to a large glass bowl or measuring cup. Add the honey and mix with a whisk until dissolved. Add the grated ginger and apple cider vinegar. Use a hand-held juicer to squeeze in lemon juice. Add a little turmeric and black pepper. Taste and add more honey if needed.
