5 Simple Ways To Move Your Body To Improve Your Health and Wellness

Donna Sergi • Dec 17, 2018

Living an active lifestyle is easier than you may think. You don’t need an incredibly rigid program, or even a gym for that matter. Small changes add up and everything counts! You can begin improving your overall health and wellness with these simple steps.

Cut down on screen time

Dedicate one night per week to being a screen-less one. No TV, no internet, no scrolling through Facebook on your phone. Instead, use the evening to do a physical activity with your family or friends. Go for a walk, push the coffee table out of the way and have a dance party, the options are limitless.

Be active during screen time

On the flip side, when the TV is on, get up during the commercials and get moving. Try to do as many jumping jacks, push ups, or squats as possible before your show comes back. You can even make a mini challenge of it by setting an exercise goal. For example, 50 lunges per commercial break. Then try to beat that goal each time.

Let it snow

With the colder weather upon us, getting some exercise is easier than many of us realize. Snow shoveling burns lots of calories! Or for something a little more fun, build a snowman or organize a snowball fight. You likely won’t even realize how many muscles you’re working until the soreness kicks in the next day.

Talk and walk

Instead of chatting away on your phone from the couch, get up and give some walking around a shot. There’s absolutely no reason to stay seated.

Hit the stairs

Forget that elevators even exist and start taking the stairs everywhere. At home, set 10 minutes aside daily for a mini tabata-style stair workout. Walk up and down the stairs as many times as possible for 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, then start again. You’ll build stamina without even realizing it!
